Color Inspiration video

I hope the format of the blog is working ok. I have made a few changes.

This is a great video clip for color combination inspiration:

What color combos are you into right now? I am loving anything with turquoise. I am also working on some wedding jewelry in pink and gray so that is on my mind.

Upcycled: clothes into accessories

I have been compiling some ideas on recycled crafts for an upcoming church activity. This is what I have made out of old clothes.

#1: Jersey necklace. This necklace was made by cutting long strips of a t-shirt and pulling them to stretch them out. I got my inspiration from The Sisters 4 Say More is More. They are the queens of jersey necklaces. Here is a link to their fabulous jewelry tutorials. This necklace took mere minutes to make! (picture is sideways)

#2 T-shirt flowers necklace. I made this using the same technique as an Anthro knock-off necklace shown at this link. I just used more petals this time and used ribbon instead of chain. Pretty for spring!

#3. Denim flower. This idea came from Tea Rose Home. This flower can be used as a brooch or hair accessory. I found it easier to scrunch up after I sprayed it with water.

#4 T-shirt flower. I sewed a pin back on this one because it is a little big for me to wear in my hair. I will post a tutorial for this simple flower soon!
Upcycling is fun! Do you have any other ideas that I could use for my activity? Leave a link in your comment!

What I Wore: It's called nautical, kids

I am really excited and flattered to have reached 300 followers! Thanks!!

Oh man, I thought this was such a great outfit- totally hitting the nautical trend. But all day, EVERYONE had to tell me how patriotic I looked. It's called nautical, kids. It's okay to wear red and white stripes when it's not the 4th of July. Even an employee at the hospital taking care of my grandma said it. Then to top it all off, when I got home, the first thing husband said was "You look patriotic." Good grief. Maybe next time I should wear a sailor's cap or something.

I wore this exact same outfit again and didn't even take a new picture from last time.

I also wore this again (twice actually). Yup, same picture that you have seen before. I didn't get very creative this week. I think I need another 30 for 30.

If you are new here you can find the tutorial for the socks by clicking on this link.

In my last post, I mentioned a spring break sale. Unfortunately, that is going to have to wait. Spring break is going slightly different than I had planned, but I will have my new items and a discount code soon.

Thanks for dropping by! Be sure to check out the other outfits linked up at the Pleated Poppy!

What I Wore

Okay people, it's TRON DAY! Tron: Legacy comes out on DVD today. Oh I am Tron nerd! I am sooooo excited to watch it!

Hooray! Open-toed shoes! The weather in Utah is crazy. One day this past week it reached 75 degrees. The next morning we woke up to several inches of snow on the ground. No joke.

The top outfit is what I wore to work.

Below, is how I changed into jeans to go see a play (Hairspray!!).

I love this sweater. It's kinda hard to tell but it's white with yellow around the color, bottom, and sleeves. I got it on clearance at Shade last year at the end of the season so I haven't been able to wear it much. I am also very glad it is jacket season! (Sort of).

I don't know what else to add to this shirt. Any suggestions?

You can read all about this outfit here in my Shop Your Closet post.

I had to layer this t-shirt over a long sleeved tee because it got cold again. Boo. But check out the fun bling!

In style news, I bought a gingham shirt at Old Navy for $5 and a pair of crop pants for $2.50!

In craft news, my toilet paper art project is coming along nicely.

In other news, we are building garden boxes, getting our finances in order, buying more food storage, I am planning 9th grade graduation, I got to play racquetball at work today, I love making hummus in my mini food processor, I made green smoothies and husband actually drank one, I am going to Turbo Kick soon, next week is spring break, and I did I mention that I get to watch TRON tonight????

Shop Your Closet: Mixing Patterns 2

After my last post on mixing patterns, I wanted to take it a step further and really go out on a limb. This is what I came up with. This was really breaking my own rules. I really love the styles that I see online where people wear mismatching (but not clashing) pieces together so I tried it.

I really love how it turned out! It was fun to wear and didn't cost me any money since I shopped my closet!
I am wearing a thrifted Shade t-shirt, Old Navy jacket, Charlotte-Russe necklace, belt from local boutique, handmade skirt (made by my Mom), and shoes from Forever Young shoes.
To read some tips on mixing patterns go to my first post on this here. What is your favorite way to mix patterns and mismatch?

TP art inspiration

I recently discovered toilet paper holder art. I am TOTALLY making some of these. My mom has been saving the rolls from her house too and I have enough to start today while I listen to LDS General Conference. Here are the projects I will be using for inspiration.

The How-To Gal

My plan is to combine a few of the ideas and put my own twist on it. I want to make four small pieces to hang together for a big impact. I am totally copying the turquoise color- I already bought the spray paint.

Any suggestions? Wish me luck! Hopefully it will be all done to show you in a couple of weeks.

YOUR Accordion Strands and a lot of blabbering

Several of you have now tried the Accordion Strands Anthropologie knock-off tutorial. Check out these lovelies for more inspiration to make your own!

This leopard print version is by Melissa at Ador.

I love the hot pink! Find this one at Heidi's Hobby.

I want to make a yellow one like this one at Salt and Pepper.

Again, here is the one found at Two Carolina Nesters.

Go tell these bloggers what a great job they did on the project!

I have been doing A TON of research and "Googling" looking for upcycled and repurposed projects (neither of which is a real word) for a church activity I am making. I am going to have some incredible projects to share with you! I have found some amazing stuff out there. If you click here I will give you a tantalizing peek at the inspiration for an upcoming project. Although I hope mine is half as good as this project is! And please save your tp holders for me...

I am so worn out tonight. I am continuing to write so that I can procrastinate going to the grocery store. I want to finish listening to the BYU game before I go- there's only a few minutes left. Yes, husband, I am listening to the BYU game all by myself. But you will never know because you never read this blog. He said he would read it if I ever wrote about deep thoughts or something but how will he know if I blog about my deep thoughts if he never reads it?

Earlier tonight a salesman or someone came to my door. I never answer if I am home alone. I just peek out the window and watch until they leave. We have a No Soliciting sign so it irks me to no end when someone comes. As I am peering out the window I SWEAR I heard the guy trying the knob. I almost passed out! I was SO scared! In a millisecond I formulated a plan to run out the garage door so he couldn't get me. Then he walked away and it took 10 minutes for my heart to slow down.

The game is in commercial now so I will tell you another story about a salesman. Last week I was expecting my SIL so when the doorbell rang I flung the door open all excited-like. It was not her. It was some dude wanting me to sign a petition. Correction- he wanted my parents to sign the petition. He asked if my mom and dad were home. This happened to husband once and he just said no they are not and closed the door. Hilarious! I was annoyed so I gave the guy a stern look and explained that I was the homeowner, thank you very much. He gaped at me and just looked stupid. Finally he asked how old I was. I acted all offended and said that I didn't feel comfortable telling him that. Dur. Did he think I was a 16-year-old homeowner or something? Don't people know that "soliciting" means asking for something, not just money. So ANYTHING you are asking for at my door violates my No Soliciting sign. *Sigh*

Oh man, overtime!!! I wonder if it will be over by the time I get to the store... Dang it!

Shop Your Closet: Jackets and Skirts

Shop Your Closet is a feature where I find an outfit I like and then go shopping in my closet to recreate it. This way I am exercising my creativity without spending any money.

Somehow I only got one picture of what I wore this week so I am doing Shop Your Closet instead.

Recently, Ruby Mines did this great post about wearing jackets with dresses for spring. There is one outfit with a denim jacket that reminded me of the blazer I have. While my outfit looks nothing like the examples I still found some inspiration there.

The skirt is handmade by my mom, and everything I have had for a long time except the Steve Madden boots.
