A Spring Baby Shower

Last week my sister-in-law was in town, on sort of a last minute trip. She is expecting her first baby and is far away from family. I threw her an impromptu baby shower and put it together in just four days. I recycled the decorations from my mom's birthday party and reused them in a little bit different way for this shower.

Not too bad for four days of work. A HUGE thank you to everyone that helped- Mom, Aunt Lisa, Sarah, and Carlie. I think it was a success!

Spring Birthday Party

A couple of weeks ago my aunt and I threw a birthday party for my mom's big 5-0 birthday. I made all of the decorations- pinwheels, paper medallions, tissue paper puffs and flowers, banners, and garlands. It was such a fun project! We chose to use pink, orange, yellow, green and blue in patterns of dots and stripes.

My aunt set up this darling candy station next to the door so guests could take their party favor on the way out. The candy colors all matched the party scheme.

The boxes on the left were for the guests to fill with their candy.

As guests walked back into the kitchen/family room area, they was a little book for them to sign and leave a birthday wish for the guest of honor.

I made this polka dot garland using my Silhouette Cameo. My aunt found the matching balloons.

The house then opens up into this nice kitchen/dining area where we set up the tables. Some of chairs were missing in this shot, but we provided plenty of chairs.

I made this banner with the Silhouette cameo too. If you need a tutorial on how to make the paper medallions (attached to the stone) I wrote one last year at this link.
Here are a couple of close up shots of the pinwheels. I was able to find a lot of cute paper.

I made this garland similar to the scrappy bird garland by cutting out the shapes and sewing them together using the machine. We strung it between the lights and it was the perfect length!

Here's a few shots of the delicious food!

Happy birthday Mom! I hope you had a wonderful party. A big thanks to Aunt Lisa for hosting and doing the food and giving me the opportunity to this!

Vintage Travel Garland

I made this garland to decorate a going away party I had for my bro and sis-in-law that moved to the Washington DC area. I cut out the airplanes and the globes from black cardstock on my mom's Silhouette machine. I found the vintage travel posters online. The items are all just taped to the twine.

All of my travel posters are for DC because that's what my theme was. You could use any area, or a variety of locations to make the garland more reusable. Click here for a website I found that has free posters.

For the party I hung up maps in the room of the world and the DC area. I also put a globe on the table. I didn't know if this was cute or not, but husband told me it was okay. Then I got made fun of by the party guests so I guess "not" was the answer.

Oh well, the garland is super cute and I really love how it turned out. I love vintage travel posters. I thought about hanging it in the retro room, but it's too long to hang there so I will be using it in my classroom next school year.

P.S. Thanks for the help, Mom!

A Glimpse of Easter Weekend

My mom made this cute centerpiece.

She made these baskets on her Silhouette machine.

I made these delicious ham and egg cups for breakfast.

Find the recipe here.

Husband's Easter basket. The bunny visits him every year!

Some men in our neighborhood did a service activity to trim trees. I collected a few of the branches from our trees and put them in a vase.

I love the bit of spring it brings to our house.

I cut some tulips to take to my grandma. She has been very sick in the hospital. However, she is doing much better now and I am so happy! I love her so much!

My mother-in-law made this cute display.

She also made this incredible cake.

Susannah is hiding eggs.

Husband has too much fun hiding eggs

The kids are so cute!

This one can't get enough eggs fast enough.

Grandpa is helping get the hard to reach eggs

Two of my cute nieces

I love this shot.

I love this one too.

These two are worn out.

Precious.

I love Easter because we make a bigger effort to remember the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ. His sacrifice for our sins and pains gives me so much hope. Our Heavenly Father loves us so much and wants us to return to him so badly that he sent his Son to pay the price of our sins. I know that if we repent and come unto him, we can be forgiven and return to live with God someday. He can also ease our burdens because He knows what we are going through. He is ready. We just need to let Him in our hearts.

Happy Easter!

Birthday Party Inspiration

While browsing the web last weekend I found some amazing birthday party ideas that I just had to share.

#1 Tron: Legacy birthday party found at Living Locurto. I LOVE Tron, I mean REALLY LOVE Tron, so I LOVED this party!

Look at the cool cupcake toppers and labels. They are available through links on the site.

How creative are these cupcake stands? I love the glow sticks under the glasses. What a great idea! This party is so cool, it isn't even fair.

#2 Pop Art Super Hero party from Hostess Blog. My student council is planning a super hero activity for our school. We will definitely be using this party as inspiration.

I love these cake balls! Be sure to check out the original post to see all the gorgeous photos and other food ideas.

Check out that cake! WOW!!!!! I want to be a party planner when I grow up.

#3 Toy Story from Oopsey Daisey. This is soooo cute!

I love this subway art. It will be a fun keepsake. Even the wrapping paper matches!

A great party is in the details, isn't it? I love the army men hanging from the ceiling.

Can I throw Spencer a party like this? His birthday is coming up in May. Every man needs a kid-themed party for his 27th birthday, right? Or is it okay to throw myself a birthday party with a great theme? That gives me until July to prepare....
